Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program
Zero Tuition. $40,000 Annual Stipend.
The Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency at Austin Institute of Dental Medicine offers an intensive one-year program designed to elevate general dentists to an advanced level of knowledge, skill, and clinical competence. Our program prepares residents to confidently manage complex cases and provide comprehensive care across all dental disciplines.
Program Overview
The AEGD program serves as a bridge between dental school and private practice or specialty education, providing graduates with additional training that significantly enhances their clinical abilities. Unlike specialty programs that focus on a single area, our AEGD emphasizes comprehensive care across all disciplines, allowing residents to develop as well-rounded clinicians capable of managing diverse patient needs.
Clinical Excellence
Our program offers extensive hands-on experience in all aspects of general dentistry:
Advanced Technology
Residents gain proficiency with cutting- edge dental technology:
Patient-Centered Care
Residents learn to provide comprehensive care with a focus on the whole patient:
Curriculum & Schedule
The 12-month curriculum combines clinical practice, didactic education, and seminars in a carefully structured format:
Clinical Practice (80%)
Residents spend the majority of their time providing direct patient care under faculty supervision, with increasing independence as the year progresses.
Didactic Education (15%)
Formal courses, lectures, and workshops cover advanced topics across all dental specialties.
Literature Review & Case Presentations (5%)
Regular seminars allow residents to critically analyze current literature and present their complex cases for group discussion.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants must possess a DDS or DMD degree earned from a dental school that is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Applicants should be qualified for U.S. dental licensure and meet all institutional requirements for postgraduate residency training.
Accreditation
The Advanced Education Programs in Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), and Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics sponsored by Paris Regional Health at the Austin Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) are developing programs that have applied for accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association.
* A comprehensive CODA site-visit evaluation was completed in September 2025 with no recommendations cited. CODA will consider granting each program “Initial Accreditation” at its 2026 meeting (Feb 2026). No residents will be enrolled until Initial Accreditation is granted, in accordance with CODA policy for developing programs. Pending that decision, the inaugural cohort is anticipated to matriculate in July 2026.
