Prosthodontics Residency Program

Sponsored by Paris Regional Health and conducted at the Austin Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM), the Prosthodontics residency is a comprehensive 34‑month program focused on complex restorative dentistry, implant rehabilitation, full‑mouth reconstruction, and contemporary digital dentistry supported by an in‑house laboratory environment.

Our Prosthodontics Residency offers a comprehensive 34-month program dedicated to developing specialists in advanced restorative dentistry. Our program combines cutting-edge technology, evidence-based education, and extensive clinical experience to prepare residents for the complex challenges of modern prosthodontics practice.

Program Overview

Prosthodontics is the dental specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of patients with complex dental and oral conditions related to missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues. Our residency program prepares specialists who can manage the most challenging restorative cases with confidence and skill.

Curriculum & Schedule


The 34-month curriculum provides a carefully sequenced educational experience:

Foundation Phase (Year 1)

Build core knowledge and fundamental skills:

  • Advanced dental anatomy and occlusion
  • Fundamentals of fixed and removable prosthodontics
  • Introduction to implant dentistry
  • Treatment planning methodology
  • Basic laboratory procedures and materials science
  • Initial research project development

Development Phase (Year 2)

Expand capabilities and clinical experience:

  • Advanced implant surgery and restoration
  • Complex fixed prosthodontic procedures
  • Digital workflow implementation
  • Management of challenging removable cases
  • Research progression and data collection
  • Introduction to teaching responsibilities

Mastery Phase (Year 3)

Refine expertise and transitioning to specialist practice:

  • Full mouth rehabilitation case completion
  • Advanced esthetic and implant procedures
  • Maxillofacial prosthetics rotation 
  • Research completion and presentation 
  • Board examination preparation 
  • Practice management principles

Research & Scholarly Activity

Our program emphasizes the importance of evidence-based practice and contributing to the scientific literature. Each resident completes a research project suitable for publication, with support including:

Faculty & Facilities

Our program faculty includes board-certified prosthodontists with diverse expertise in clinical practice, research, and education. Residents train in state-of-the-art facilities including dedicated prosthodontic clinics, a digital design center, and an in-house dental laboratory with the latest CAD/CAM technology.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants must possess a DDS or DMD degree earned from a dental school that is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Applicants should be qualified for U.S. dental licensure and meet all institutional requirements for postgraduate residency training.

Accreditation

The program in prosthodontics is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of “initial accreditation”. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. The Commission on Dental Accreditation has accredited the program in prosthodontics. However, accreditation of the program does not in itself constitute recognition of any dental specialty status.

Application Requirements

To complete your application, you must upload the following documents to our application portal: a CV or résumé, standardized test scores, transcripts, and letters of recommendation.

Standardized Tests

Applicants are required to submit scores for one of the following:

  • INBDE
  • NBDE I & II
  • GRE

If you choose to submit NBDE scores, it is recommended that both NBDE I and II were taken within the past five years. The INBDE must be successfully passed prior to the start of the program. All NBDE or INBDE scores should also be referenced in your Dean’s evaluation or recommendation letters.

The ADAT is not mandatory but will be accepted if available.

Transcripts

All transcripts, including unofficial undergraduate and dental school transcripts, must be uploaded to the application portal.
