Usually one or two appointments
A root canal has a reputation it stopped deserving decades ago. What it does is remove the infected nerve tissue that is causing the pain — the appointment is the thing that ends the ache, not the thing that causes it.
Limited-field 3D imaging shows the root anatomy — how many canals there are and what shape they are in. That is what separates a standard case from a complex one.
Under local anaesthetic, the infected pulp is removed, the canals are cleaned and shaped, and they are sealed. Most people find it comparable to having a filling done.
A treated tooth is more brittle than a live one, so it needs a protective core buildup and, in almost every back tooth, a crown. Both are in the crown bundle price.
A porcelain or ceramic crown is made and fitted, restoring the shape and the chewing surface. That is what turns a saved tooth into a tooth you can actually use.

Why it matters
Once the nerve inside a tooth is infected, there are two honest options: clean the inside of the tooth out and seal it, or take the tooth out. Nothing else resolves it. Antibiotics quieten the symptoms and buy days, not a cure. Keeping your own root in your own jaw is the outcome every replacement option is trying to imitate.
Comfort
“Painful as a root canal” describes the toothache people arrive with, not the treatment. Under local anaesthetic the procedure itself is comparable to a large filling, and comfort, sedation and anxiety care is one of the things AIDM® is specifically known for.
